I had an appointment yesterday to have wax removed from my ears, and unfortunately, the experience left me feeling disappointed.
A staff member performed the ear irrigation, and while one ear was treated without much issue, my left ear was impacted and the removal was unsuccessful. I understand that impacted wax can be difficult to remove, and I truly appreciate the effort that was made. However, the procedure left my ear swollen and very uncomfortable.
Bridgette, the Nurse Practitioner, was responsible for looking over the work after the procedure. When I left the office, I expressed concern about how my ear felt and was told that Bridgette would call me. I felt reassured at the time, believing there would be follow-up, especially given that the removal was not successful.
As of today, I have not received a call. I left four messages yesterday and another one this morning for the doctor, but I have not heard back from anyone. This lack of communication has been very frustrating and concerning, especially as my ear remains swollen and uncomfortable.
At some point, antibiotics were sent to the pharmacy for me, but no one explained why they were prescribed or what they were intended to treat. I believe patients deserve to understand why they are being given medication and what symptoms they should be monitoring. A brief explanation would have gone a long way toward easing my concerns.
Because I was unable to get guidance or a referral from the office, I now have to seek care from an ENT specialist on my own. Unfortunately, due to the swelling, I cannot have anything further done for another week. All I really wanted was a simple follow-up call to check on how I was doing, explain the situation, and provide a referral if needed.
I want to be clear that I truly like this practice and have always had positive experiences in the past. That is why this situation has been especially disappointing. Follow-up care and clear communication are such important parts of medical treatment. Even a quick return call would have made a significant difference.
I hope this feedback is taken constructively. My goal is not to criticize, but to emphasize how important communication and follow-through are to patients. I sincerely hope this can be improved moving forward.
